First of all, what is self-esteem?

Well, self-esteem is how you feel about yourself, or the opinion you have about yourself. I’m sure that everyone has times when they feel a bit hard to believe in themselves. If this becomes a long term situation then you would need to start thinking of improving it. This could lead to problems such as depression and anxiety.

Self-esteem is often not associated with either your own ability or other’s perceptions of you. As it is quite possible for someone who is good at something to have poor self-esteem. Alternatively, people who struggles with a particular task might generally have good self-esteem.

So how can you improve it?

1. be nice to yourself

Most of the time that we cannot think straight or be graceful of what you’ve achieve, is usually because there’s a little demon, or a negative thoughts producer blocking your way. That little voice can be more powerful than you might think. A good way to defeat your inside voice is that to speak to yourself the same way you speak with others. You can also try to write down three things that you like about yourself. This might be hard at first, but hey, practice makes perfect.

2. ”be who you are not who the world wants you to be”

Comparing yourself to other is a sure-fire way to start feeling crummy. Try to focus on your own targets and achievements, rather than measuring them to other people, it’s a unnecessary kind of pressure. Don’t try to become what other people wants you to be, you’ll never be able to do that, because you are you, the one and only.

3. do what makes you happy

If you spend time doing the things you enjoy, you’re more likely to think positively. Try to schedule a time for you everyday to do that. Whether it‘s reading, cooking, or just being a couch potato, if that makes you happy, make time for it.

4. reflect your doing

It’s ray to get hung up on the things that are out of your control, but it won’t achieve much. Instead try and put those energy on identifying the things that are within your control and see what you can do to improve them. Writing a diary or make notes of one thing that you’re not happy with and three ways you could do to change it.

5. exercise

Exercise is a great way to increase motivation, practice setting goals and build confidence. Breaking a sweat also cues the body to release endorphins, which is the feel-good hormones.

Just remember, no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes. It’s okay to stop and rest for a while.
